Morse Pond Reviews

Last year Eight Cousins joined forces with the 6th grade book club at Morse Pond, led by the intrepid, adventurous, and inspirational Mrs. Abbott. Thanks to some of our publisher friends, who provided Advance Reader Copies, the kids were able to read and review books prior to publication. This program started late in the year, but the feedback and enthusiasm was overwhelmingly positive and we decided to try it again this year. I met with both the 5th and 6th grade clubs last week. We talked about ARCs and how to ‘read’ them. We discussed cover design, images, titles, and author names, along with blurbs, marketing plans, and promotional campaigns. The kids all had fascinating comments and questions about these topics and I’m so excited to see where this year takes us. In a couple weeks, I’ll go back to talk more about the review process and how to approach reviewing. Nevertheless, reviews are already coming in so keep watch this year for reading suggestions and comments on new middle grade fiction.
